I’m on day 7 of what I now know is the flu. At first I thought I had a sudden allergy attack as I out of nowhere got congested , couldn’t stop sneezing and had a sore throat in my office. It was so bad that my co-worker who was in a room next door came in and was like, “oh shit, you need to get the hell our of here.” So I did.
I don’t tend to go to worst case scenarios but my co-workers were sure there was something in my office that caused me to have such a sudden attack that enflamed my immune system so an extra cleaning of my office was ordered as was an air purifier. But then the next day I got the same exact “attack” at nearly the same time while I was at home. So the culprit couldn’t be my office, maybe it was the city - I mean the air quality in Los Angeles does teeter between great and shit. I even tried to attend a work meeting but had to bail because of the sudden wave of exhaustion and congestion wouldn’t allow me to stay and no amount of saline nasal washes, hot steam and antihistamines was helping. Oh and then a staffer came out COVID 19 positive (no symptoms) and I was with them.
So off to Kaiser I went for a PCR test and a visit to urgent care. And while I was negative for COVID -19 (yay an thanks to all my boosters) I did have a confirmed case of the flu and was given tamiflu (it didn’t fuck with my stomach) and some prescription cough pills.
Resting is hard for me but the flu kind of forces me too since sometimes I’m so congested that my eyes water and I just want to die, or I feel like I was run over by a truck, or I start coughing uncontrollably and then I cough myself to sleep. I have found that I can answer emails and sorta deal with small issues in 10 minute spurts (ie a big box home improvement store that has a logo the same color as a former president is harassing day laborers - again), and make sure that all staff get paid. I’ve been “out sick” from work four days now. I’ve been watching shitty tv (Real Housewives and Griselda). I have been trying to read and write.
At this point I’m probably 60 percent better. I cannot really taste or smell and my nose is clear but my head is not (if that makes any sense).
So please get vaxxed, wear a mask, wash your hands.
Thank you! flu has moved on but now sinus infection is visiting .
Feel better!
