I’m counting today’s full moon as the real end of the month and because I was - yet again- not as prolific as I would have hoped on here - I’m doing a review of que paso - what didn’t happen so that tomorrow morning, in the words of Piri Thomas - I can be born again at each a.m.
What I did
And the legislative season in California has started again, and so has my at least monthly trips to Sacramento where I put on press on nails and red lipstick and talk to people who think they are important. My teenage daughter is unimpressed that I am trying to change laws that are rooted in U.S. chattel slavery and white supremacy. She wishes she had known me when I was a broke ass blogger covering the Latin Grammy Awards but alas she will have to settle for tales of navigating the Swing Space on O Street.
I got a horrible variation of the flu that knocked me the fuck out a a few weeks and the got a sinus infection - but I also redid my balayage and got my hair cut.
I ended my relationship and then started it again and I don’t know what the hell is going on with that. Recovery is hard and add a dash of mental illness and it’s just a rollercoaster. I’m trying to balance empathy with boundaries and it’s hard hard hard.
I’m pretty sure I’m co-dependent , maybe I’m better off alone- no se. I got a referral to therapy again.
What I lost - Shafiqah Hudson
Oh Sassycrass. Why now? Why this month? The creator of the hashtag #YourSlipIsShowing left this side of the universe this month. We weren’t friends but we were part of the same generation of social media makers - Black and other women of color pointing out the dangerous ways that digital media is just an extension of the racism and Anti-Blackness that feeds the “real world” and in fact can be more scary. Her message, like that of so many Black women - was downplayed, stolen from, made her the target of attacks. And behind her always fighting words - she was fighting for her life. And this makes me Sangry - Sad and Angry. Luz a tu espiritu.
