Fire & Fog
Talking to Ancestors, Kin and Birds
A dear one of mine honored her birthday with a Mayan fire ceremony and invited some of her beloveds family, friends and children to take part. She, in her Earth sign glory reminds me by inviting me to experience things. One of our favorite things to do together has become going to a Korean spa followed by sushi and drinks. Once she was my employee but we have become nearly kin, supporting one another through moves and mami’ing and navigating relationships of all kinds. I was honored to attend and witness the ceremony.
According to the Tata leading the ceremony, the ceremony was being done on the day of the bird and birds sang/spoke loudly throughout and the fire moved auspiciously to her and our collective prayers and intentions. Afterwards we all broke bread and cried but the message I received , especially experiencing the ceremony with one of my werk wives, was that we/are protected - not in a way that means that we will not experience pain or grief - that comes every day but in a way that means that we are not alone- we have been placed/found/created in/for this moment with whom we need to be with and together we will move through the fire.
Fog is not the opposite of fire but it was in fog that I celebrated another Capricorn, my younger daughter. We shared a long walk and a delicious meals and played with rescue animals. I felt lucky and grateful for her and our relationship while walking through the fog in the early morning and adding birds to my life list (hello Robins and Waxwings and Dark-eyed Juncos). The fog, much like fire smoke obscures things visually but there are other senses we can use to move us through : sound (the mallards were especially raucous in the waterway), touch (oaks feel different than redwoods), smells (yumm cows) and as my daughter grows older and does wondrous things, so do I.
