Did you know I love good food. Like gourmet meals, tasting menus with wine parings and greasy spoons and street stands.
My parents’ assimilation experiment is partially to blame for this. From an early age they were taking me to French Bistros and teaching me to eat with chopsticks, plus I grew up in Queens, New York-where the most languages anywhere are spoken which means any type of food is also spoken.
When my parents divorced my dad took a french cooking class and taught me how to “properly” chop and make a vinaigrette. He eventually sent me to the same class.
I’m a pretty good cook , with a decent innate sense of sazon and when I have the time, I like trying to make new things - like most recently I made a mean ropa vieja. And yes I can cook Puerto Rican food too.
But I love going out to eat - even if my wallet hates me for it. Being in New York and now Los Angeles means I have access to some good fancy grub and I love sharing a good meal with my daughters, my friends, and my man.
So I’m not going to do food reviews here but I do kinda do food reviews on Yelp - enough to have elite status without even trying - and yes restaurants pay attention to those things - which surprised me.
Any way if you want to see some of where I am eating in Los Angeles (and occasionally NYC) you can see my yelp profile here.
PS- Fun fact - I once dated a CIA student (Culinary Institute of America - you all should know me better by now) and he had an externship at a four star /two michelin star spot. Besides bringing me all of his “failed” experiments - we also had sex in the pastry room of said place - a health violation for sure.
